THE MENTORSHIP

 

THE DETAILS

• February 2 - August 2, 2019
• 20 Mentorship Seats / 20 Silent Seats (Upon filling Mentorship Seats)
• Live Discussions will occur two Sundays per month at 10:00 a.m. EST beginning February 10th. 

Students will have access to bimonthly live discussions, as well as a private Facebook group for the entire duration of the 6 months, where they can receive one-on-one feedback from instructors who will check in once a week. In addition, students will have unlimited access to a general facebook group for peer discussion.

Silent Seats will be allowed in the general group but not the private mentorship group. They will have access to all live discussions, but may not participate in discussions or critique. 

All materials will be available for download for both mentorship and silent seats. 

 

 

MONTH ONE: ART THEORY

• Use art history operations (Description, Analysis, Interpretation, Judgement) to study the work of artists in addition to selected master & contemporary photographers
• Learn about the five Aesthetic Theories: Imitationalism, Emotionalism, Formalism, Contextualism & Instrumentalism
• Round table discussion from selected art articles, essays and books.

 

MONTH THREE: PROJECT DEVELOPMENT

• Students will begin or continue to develop project ideas(s). Instructors will provide guidance based on student’s needs. 
• Participate in peer & self critique

 

MONTH SIX: PRESENTATION AND PORTFOLIO REVIEW

• Cull images from six months and edit for cohesive final portfolio
• Develop Artist Statement & CV
• What next? Individualized feedback for Website development, gallery work, exhibit submission preparation
• Final student presentations

MONTH TWO: LEARNING ART CRITICISM

• Learning proper critique form (Description, Analysis, Interpretation, Judgement) & why it matters in stregthening your photography
• Participate in peer & self critique

 

MONTHS FOUR & FIVE: SHOOTING AND FEEDBACK

• Students will shoot per their project developed from month 3.
• Instructors will provide personalized feedback based on students needs; self-critique and peer-critique will also be given as project progresses.
